Workshop on Emotional Management
Staying on top of emotions will better equip oneself to cope with the ups and downs in life and, most importantly, to live a healthy and happy life.

Student advocates of the Health in Mind Programme attended a workshop on Emotional Management conducted by Rachel Poon, Senior Clinical Psychologist of Kwai Chung Hospital on 16th February 2008. At the workshop, the students learnt about ways through which they could manage emotional fluctuations.

The students practised reflective exercises and participated in interactive role plays in the workshop. They found the skills and knowledge acquired from this workshop helpful to their daily lives.

Mrs Poon explained the importance of emotional management and introduced the students to ways in which they might ease emotional fluctuations through reflective exercises and interactive role play. Students found the skills and knowledge acquired from this workshop not only helpful to themselves but also to their friends.

Workshop on Substance Abuse
On 1st March 2008, Dr Cheung Wai Him, Associate Consultant of Kwai Chung Hospital conducted the workshop on Substance Abuse to the student advocates of the Health In Mind programme. Dr Cheung spoke about the variety of drugs and the adverse effects after taking them. He emphasized that drug abuse might cause permanent damage to the brain. The workshop increased the students' awareness on how to protect themselves from drugs.

Health in Mind Students Promote Mental Wellbeing in Schools
Health in Mind student advocates are organizing a range of in-school activities this year to help spread mental health knowledge and promote mental wellbeing, social inclusion and re-integration.

More than 50 in-school activities will be held, including drama, slogan writing, singing and shirt design competitions and talks on mental health. All these activities will have a mental health theme.

Volunteer services also play a major role in the Health in Mind programme. The activities will include visits to outdoor centres such as the Wetland Park and Mai Po marshes. Thirty volunteer activities will be held this year.

"Volunteer services have proven to be an effective means of changing students' attitudes towards people with mental illness," explained Francis Woo, Senior Nursing Officer (Psychiatric) of Hospital Authority - Kwai Chung Hospital. "They promote social inclusion and re-integration. We often find that the students who participate in these activities become much more confident about involving themselves with people with mental health problems."

「Teen

City Orienteering Shows the Way
For the third consecutive year, some 60 service users from Castle Peak Hospital and 120 Health in Mind student advocates enjoyed a day of City Orienteering in Kowloon and the New Territories jointly organized by Jardine Ambassadors' Education & Prevention and Reintegration groups.

With the Jardine Ambassadors and friends acting as facilitators, the participants were divided into teams of four to six people. Each team had to complete certain tasks within a set budget and timeline. These included reaching designated checkpoints such as the Wong Tai Sin Temple, Nan Lian Garden in Diamond Hill and shopping malls throughout the territory.

"Our City Orienteering day aims to provide the service users with an opportunity to re-integrate back to the community as well as practise their skills of planning, time management, budget allocation and decision making," explained Florence Ng of Dairy Farm. "For students, it is an opportunity to learn how to take care of the under-privileged and to promote social inclusion."
