The Community Chest of Hong Kong

For the year 2005/6, cash donation from Jardine Matheson Limited, Hongkong Land, Dairy Farm, Zung Fu and Gammon Construction to the Community Chest was again designated to mental health related causes. Funds were allocated to Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service for its mental health project for the community; New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association for its assurance of quality care for residential service; and Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong for its vocational assessment and intervention enhancement project for people with mental illness.

Castle Peak Hospital
MINDSET Club

MINDSET funded the conversion of an old staff and welfare club into a multi-functional community centre at Castle Peak Hospital. The renovation work was undertaken by Gammon, JEC, IKEA Hong Kong and JOS. The centre, named MINDSET Club, is open to the Hospital's patients and their family members, supported by various activities such as vocational training and self-help groups. Other than funding the renovation of the whole premises, MINDSET also made a cash donation to cover the running costs of the activity centre for a year since its opening.

Guangdong YangAi Special Children Parent Club

MINDSET continued to fund the running of the Guangdong YangAi Special Children Parent Club which works to fulfil the needs of physically or mentally disabled children and their families in Mainland China through a growing network of 40 affiliated clubs in 17 provinces. As part of its support, MINDSET sponsored YangAi's six annual conference for parents and professionals, which was held in Guangzhou under the theme 'The Child Within the Family'.

Heep Hong Charity Walk cum Sports Day

MINDSET continued to support Heep Hong 2005 Charity Walk cum Sports Day. The objectives of this event were to arouse public awareness on the needs and welfare of children with disabilities and their families; and to promote the integration of children with disabilities and other children.

Hong Chi Association
Hong Chi Climbathon

For two consecutive years, MINDSET sponsored a team to participate in this fund raising event. This activity, climbing up the 75-storey Central Plaza, is the Association's major effort to raise funds for children and adults with mental handicap. The MINDSET team won the 1st runner up in Team Relay (Mixed) this year.

Mental Health First Aid Training Course

For the second year running, MINDSET supported a mental health first aid training course run by the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong. A pilot project finished last year proved most successful with 403 people attending the 15-hour course. During 2005/06, the Association offered courses for some 400 families, carers and others involved in looking after the mentally ill.

Operation Santa Claus
Fu Hong Society - Sensory Garden

MINDSET funded the establishment of the 3,000 sq. ft Fu Hong Sensory Garden at the roof of its rehabilitation centre at Aberdeen through Operation Santa Claus. The Sensory Garden provides opportunities for its 320 service users to perform different outdoor activities, including horticulture, in order to enjoy physical and sensory stimulation. Family members of the service users and volunteers are also involved in the activities.
