The Community Chest of Hong Kong
The donation from Jardine Matheson Limited, Hongkong Land, Dairy Farm, Zung Fu and Gammon Construction to the Community Chest will continue to be designated to mental health related causes. Funds are being allocated to the following four agencies:
Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service - which will utilize the fund on its counselling service and work groups for clients with emotional disorders;
Christian Oi Hip Fellowship Limited - which will utilize the fund to organize activities for mutual-help groups and to operate the Resource Centre for ex-mental patients;
Hong Kong Family Welfare Society - which will focus on mental health group work service;
Mental Health Association of Hong Kong - which will concentrate on its volunteer service in mental health.
Guangdong YangAi Special Children Parent Club
MINDSET continues to support the running costs and annual conference fees of the Guangdong YangAi Special Children Parent Club for another two years. The club is an officially registered NGO in China which empowers the parents of mentally/physically disabled children within Guangdong Province so as to give them the best possible support within the context of their families. In order to bring the members of the club together, a national conference is organized annually in Guangzhou in March.
Heep Hong Society
Heep Hong Charity Walk
MINDSET has sponsored the Society's 40th Anniversary Charity Walk cum Carnival. Apart from providing fun for the children with special needs and their families as well as celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Heep Hong, the objectives of this event were to arouse public awareness on the needs and welfare of children with disabilities and their families; and to promote the integration of children with disabilities with normal children.
Hong Chi Association
Hong Chi Climbathon - Reach for the Sky
This climbing activity at Central Plaza is the Association's major effort to raise funds to provide much-needed services for children and adults with mental handicap. MINDSET sent a team to participate the activity and the team has won the championship of the competition.
Operation Santa Claus
Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong - TEENZONE Project
MINDSET supports Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong through Operation Santa Claus. This is a youth community mental health project which provides rehabilitation and after-care services for people recovering from mental illness. It comprises three programmes: a mental health education scheme in schools, music therapy for young teenagers with early symptoms of psychosis and a mentor programme for young people in the early stages of mental illness.
Riding for The Disabled Association (RDA)
RDA Ball - A Night at Ascot
RDA in Hong Kong aims to teach disabled children and some adults to ride a horse to the best of their ability. Riding is widely recognized as one of the most beneficial forms of therapy the disabled can receive. The ball was the major fund raising event for RDA in 2004. MINDSET was the Gold Patron of the event.
St. James Settlement
'Forget-me-not' - Psycho-education Programme on Dementia and Depression
It is a community-based one-year psycho-education programme on dementia which aims to teach caregivers of dementia/depressed elderly family members with skills and knowledge in delivering care. Through a series of road show, the programme will raise the public awareness and understanding of elderly dementia and depression. MINDSET is funding this programme.
