MINDSET is providing financial support to mental health related projects and NGOs in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Any non-profit making organizations registered in Hong Kong or Mainland China and other organizations that are providing direct or indirect services to enhance the mental health of the community both in Hong Kong and in the Chinese Mainland are eligible to apply for funding. Please refer to the Funding Guidelines for details.

MINDSET has supported the following NGOs / projects in the form of cash donations over the past year:

2003

The Community Chest of Hong Kong

Jardine Matheson Limited, together with Hongkong Land, Dairy Farm, Zung Fu and Gammon Construction, have continued to support the Community Chest for the year 2003/4. The donation to the Chest will continue to be designated to support mental health projects. The fund will be allocated to three of the Community Chest's mental health agencies, namely:

Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service - which will utilize the fund on its counseling service and work groups for clients with emotional disorders;

Hong Kong Family Welfare Society - which will focus on mental health work groups;

The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong - which will concentrate on its volunteer service in mental health.

Guangdong Special Children Parent Club

MINDSET, through 7-Eleven China, has made a donation to help the families of disabled children in Guangdong. The fund has been given towards the running costs for 2003 of the Guangdong Special Children Parent Club, an organization which works to fulfil the needs of physically or mentally disabled children and their families.

Hong Chi Association (Operation Santa Claus)

MINDSET has made a donation to Hong Chi Association via Operation Santa Claus for the purchase of a Cargo Truck for its Jockey Club Hong Chi Sun Chui Workshop. Hong Chi Association is the largest NGO in Hong Kong dedicated to serving people of mental handicap and their families. The purchase of this truck enable the workshop to save its operating costs and to meet the urgent demand for transportation support as well as to create training opportunities for the workers.

Project SEPAL - Care for Carers' Programme

MINDSET has made a donation to Project SEPAL, which is designed to enhance carer's mental well-being and equip them with better knowledge and skills in the area of mental health. The funds will be used to produce an Emotional Management Educational Kit as part of Project SEPAL (Support and Empower your Pal), a three-year multi-dimensional 'Care for Carers' programme.

The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong (MHA)
"Atypical Care-giving Action" Project

This project was designed to help the elderly living alone and ex-mentally ill people in the Kwaun Tong District understand more about preventative measures against SARS. Some 15 teams of 'atypical care-givers' comprising Jardine Ambassadors, ex-mentally ill volunteers and MHA staff visited 60 living-alone elderly and ex-mentally ill people on four consecutive Saturdays in June and July. The care-givers introduced anti-SARS knowledge, including personal and home hygiene, and taught relaxation skills to relieve the stress caused by the threat of SARS.


Mental Health First Aid Training for Carers and Families

The Mental Health First Aid Training Course is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. A series of training courses will be offered to carers and family members of the mentally ill. One of the objectives of the project is to provide carers and family members with necessary knowledge to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental breakdown; and sources to get appropriate professional help.

New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association
Setting up of a Stress Management and Relaxation Centre

To provide families of those affected directly by mental illness with space (physical & psychological) to learn about and practice stress management and relaxation techniques so as to promote healthy lifestyle, self-care and nurturance of families, MINDSET has made a donation to New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association in support of the setting up of a Stress Management and Relaxation Centre in its Shamshuipo Headquarters.
